English Aesthetic Movement Treacle Glazed Moon Vase with Classical Figures
English Aesthetic Movement Treacle Glazed Moon Vase with Classical Figures
This finely crafted Aesthetic Movement ceramic vase features a twin-handled, moon-shaped design resting on a broad oval foot. Its flat, round body displays a narrow funnel neck with a folded flat-topped rim, flanked by small applied handles. The vase’s surface is adorned with classical slip-molded winged cherubs in relief—one harvesting wheat, another warming by a brazier—encased within incised, shaped borders highlighted in yellow glaze. Finished in rich brown treacle glazes contrasted by vivid yellow on the decoration, handles, and interior, the piece exhibits a subtle glaze overflow at its base and lacks visible markings.
